There are nearly 17,000 households in Pittsburgh's East End Communities of East Liberty, Garfield, Larimer, Lincoln-Lemington, East Hills, Belmar, and Homewood. Combined, these neighborhoods represent 12% of the City's population. The population in these East End Communities is 74% African American. A little more than 31% of these residents are children under the age of 18. Of those, 22% are under the age of 5. Single female parents head 50% of the total family households. More than 5% of the workforce is unemployed while only 3.8% of Pittsburgh's workforce suffers from unemployment. In the Larimer area alone, more than 11% of the population is unemployed, nearly 50% of the residents live at or below the poverty level, nearly 50% of the residents of age completed less than four years of high school, and the combined perinatal, violent, and AIDS related death rate is 4 times that of Allegheny County residents.

These numbers give you some insight into the lives of the community members they represent. Kingsley is dedicated to providing the 12,461 children living in these depressed areas with access to some of the very basic opportunities that will allow them to enjoy fuller lives.
