A proud graduate of Peabody High School—now known as Obama Academy—Tonja began her journey in public service through a specialized public safety course that introduced her to the fields of Police, Fire, and EMS. Her commitment and excellence earned her the title of Student of the Month, which led to an early opportunity to work with the City of Pittsburgh EMS Administration team.
While working in EMS, Tonja pursued further education at CCAC Northside campus, completing courses in Emergency Medical Technician training and Advanced Life Support at the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania Inc. Her career continued to flourish as she served as a 911 Telecommunications Officer II and Telecommunications Trainer I.
Tonja expanded her healthcare expertise by earning her Electronic Medical Assistant Certification from Bidwell Training Center, where she also served on the EMA Advisory Committee. She holds certifications in Conflict Resolution, Team Building, Fire Safety, Evacuation, and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens.
Her academic excellence was recognized with induction into the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
Her passion for youth empowerment led her to New Life Family Worship Center, where she served as Assistant Youth Director and later as Director of the Youth Department. There, she launched a new youth program, served on the Senior Leadership Board, built strong community partnerships—including with the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation and The Bread Works Company.
Tonja is currently serving as the Administrative Assistant for Unsearchable Riches Ministries, located in Pittsburgh. The ministry’s mission is to support, encourage, and provide women in leadership with a safe space to discuss and heal from the emotional scars and wounds that come from journeying through life and fighting on the front lines.
Outside of her professional role, Tonja enjoys indulging in shopping, self-care days at the spa, exploring museums, traveling, and watching movies. Most importantly, she finds deep gratification in fostering positive relationships and cherishes spending quality time with her family, friends, and sister circle.
